If you run a community organization and have a garbage cleanup planned, you'll likely be busy trying to recruit as many volunteers as possible. One task that you shouldn't overlook is making sure that you have the right gear for those who choose to lend a hand. While some participants may be able to bring their own gear to the cleanup initiative, many people will rely on whatever you can provide. There are several pieces of gear that are essential for a community effort of this nature, including the following.

Pickup Tools

When it comes to collecting garbage at local parks, schoolyards, and other similar areas, few people will want to pick things up by hand. You'll want to make a variety of pickup tools available. Generally, a tool that has a pinching apparatus at the end that is controlled by a trigger at the other end will be the best tool for the job. This tool will allow the person to easily collect garbage and other debris, not only without touching it but also without bending to deal with it. Such tools are valuable for elderly people who may want to help out but lack the physical aptitude to bend over repeatedly. A company like E-ZEE Supply & Distribution may have such supplies.

Buckets

While you can certainly place some large garbage bins in each area that you're working, a better approach can often be to provide a bucket for every person or couple of people who are helping out. Doing so makes the job quicker and easier. Instead of picking up a piece of waste and then walking over to the large garbage bin, your participants can fill their own buckets and then dump the contents when it's time. Small buckets can be easy to carry and yet capable of collecting a lot of waste.

Protective Apparel

You may also wish to make a variety of pieces of protective apparel available to your cleanup volunteers. Vinyl gloves can be useful, and you'll likely find that a number of people will want to wear them, perhaps under their own gardening or work gloves. Disposable dust masks may not be something that everyone needs, but if there are some particularly egregious areas on your to-do list, some of the participants who occasionally feel queasy around smells or messes may decide to wear a mask while they get the job done. Those who volunteer for this effort will appreciate having these items available to use.
